OrganWise Guys Shorts: Health Trek 01- CALCIUM

OrganWise Guys Shorts: Health Trek 01- There are several short little clips about eating healthy. This one is about how your body and bones need calcium. When it comes to teaching students about eating right, the food pyramid and choosing what they should eat at lunch- these clips would be great. I would watch them, talk about them, then make a book about what what foods help different parts of your body. This is a very important subject to me. Students could use camera's and video cameras to act out their own version of these movies.

In this movie students learn
- milk, cheese, and broccoli are high in calcium and will "save" your body when you are so tired. They will give your bones the boast they need.
- other short movies under this same grouping teach how important it is to eat breakfast, exercise, eat fiber, not eat to much fast food, etc...

The Magic School Bus. Works Out.

The Magic School Bus Works Out is for students K-4. Many students are so curious about their bodies. This would be a great PE movie or Health movie. Students can learn how to make their muscles work. They can see what happens to their bodies when they get so tired and can't keep racing. Then I would have some race activities. I would make the students race and work their lungs and muscles. Then talk about what is going on in their bodies.

This movie teaches-
- muscles need air to work
- red blood cells, heart, muscles work together
-how muscles need oxygen.

The Magic School Bus gets Planted

The Magic School Bus. Gets Planted is for grades 1-4. It is a 24 minute that introduced all kinds of new words to the student. The movie clip would be great to watch as the start of your unit about plants. I would not just watch the movie straight through. I would watch the movie and as the students hear new words they don't know we could pause the movie for a few moments and write down the words the students hear.

The movie teaches
- about the different parts of a plant- roots, steams, leaves
- what plants need to eat
- how they "eat"
- how leaves breath in air
